Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the things learners ask most about this tool.

What are Arabic-Indic numerals?

Arabic-Indic numerals are the digits ٠ ١ ٢ ٣ ٤ ٥ ٦ ٧ ٨ ٩ used across much of the Arab world. They represent exactly the same numbers as 0–9; only the glyphs and their code points differ.

What is the difference between Arabic-Indic and Persian numerals?

Both are ten digits with the same values, but four shapes differ: Persian uses ۴ ۵ ۶ ۷ where Arabic-Indic uses ٤ ٥ ٦ ٧. Persian/Urdu digits are common in Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of Central Asia.

Does the converter handle decimals, negatives, and large numbers?

Yes. It converts digits one by one, so decimal points, minus signs, spaces, and existing punctuation are preserved. The formatted result also uses the Arabic thousands separator ٬ and decimal separator ٫.

Does the tool translate numbers into Arabic words?

No. It converts digit systems, not number words. The digit-by-digit panel shows the Arabic name of each digit and lets you hear it, which is a good first step toward reading numbers aloud.

Which numeral system should I learn?

Arabic-Indic digits are standard in much of the Arab world, while Western digits are common in North Africa and in digital interfaces. Persian/Urdu digits are useful in Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Learning to recognise all three is the most practical choice.

Is the converter free and private?

Yes. It runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up, and the number you enter is never uploaded.
